The amphitheatre of Epidaurus

Epidauros is the most important ancient place of worship of the god of healing, Asclepios (Asclepieion) in Greece.
It is situated on the territory of the town of Lygourio on the Peloponnes in the region of Argolis, about 30 km from the town of Nafplio and about 13km from Palea Epidauros. Since 1988 it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The most impressive and still most prominent building of Epidauros is undoubtedly the large, hillside theatre with fantastic views of the mountain scenery of the Argolis. It dates back to the 4th century BC. (approx330 B.C.), from late classical times and according to Pausanias it is the work of Polykleitos.
A thrilling place for archaeology enthusiasts!
